[CTRL] A – The ICT role-playing Game of 2013

Various studies have shown that both schools and the ICT sector find it difficult to explain what an ICT person does, what you can achieve with a study in technology and what added value ICT / Technology provides to society.

This ICT game has arisen from a great passion for the profession, which can be played in schools in the classroom or at home with family. This ICT Roleplay (board game) is aimed at young people from 10 years old but can be played by anyone who wants to experience what it is like to participate in an ICT project.

The game consists of 8 players who form a team and build an ICT product together. At the beginning of the game, 1 card is chosen from 4 stacks. These 4 cards together form the assignment:

1) what kind of ICT product will the team build together;
2) for which target group;
3) how much time does the team get;
4) how much money does each player get.

A maximum of 4 teams of 8 players (maximum 32 students) can compete against each other. The team that manages to reach the most customers by making the right choices when purchasing product parts wins!

The aim of EQIP Consultancy is to:
1. Introduce young people in an interactive way to the development of a technical product / service, the roles and functions that exist within the technology and the social importance of ICT in our society;

2. Enthusiastic students for a study and career in engineering (especially girls);

3. Support schools, teachers & deans in advising and enthusing students with regard to technical studies;

4. Children learn that cooperation is necessary to jointly produce a product from A to Z, including sales;

5. Het imago van de ICT’er te verbeteren.

The aim of the ICT game is to:
1. Build the desired product (puzzle together) or set up a service within the set time and available budget, by performing the 8 available roles / functions;

2. Reach as many customers as possible by purchasing the right product parts (suitable for the predetermined target group) and thereby winning from the opponent (s) who also have to build a product or service;

3. Afterwards, check whether the image of an IT person has changed (positive or negative) by playing this game.

Try-outs:
The last try-outs at primary school de Beijumkorf in Groningen (director Germ Strampel) took place just before the start of the summer holidays 2013 and were received with great enthusiasm by both the children and the teachers and director. In addition, there was a demonstration at the Penta College in Spijkernisse last Thursday, November 14, 2013. The game was played with 24 children of 3-HAVO (14 and 15 years old) and also received with great success.
